Travelling in Style

I arrived at Sydney airport, checked in and headed straight to the Qantas first class lounge. Some may agree, 'It's more about the journey, than the destination' And my journey has just begun. The Spa in the lounge offers wellbeing treatments, this is a great way to relax pre-flight. I was pampered with a foot massage. Overlooking the runway, I enjoyed a meal from the Neil Perry menu prior to boarding. I was now, best prepared for some inflight sleeping hours.

 

 

 

 

Travelling for some is exciting and others dread the thought of being in the plane for many hours. Flying quite frequently, I have worked out a few essentials that I take on-board with me for stylish comfort. I try to get some rest inflight, so I always have a travel pillow and eye mask. As it can get a little cold as the temperature of the air con changes, I like to have light weight layering pieces. Some great go to pieces like a cardigan, socks and scarf.

Drink plenty of water, hydrating the body especially your skin is so important on board. I bring a lip balm and a hydrating face moisturiser to use throughout the flight. A magazine or two and my head phones, its the perfect chance to catch up on some reading and music.

"Mirror mirror on the wall, whose the fairest of them all"

Yesterday was day one of Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week in Sydney. The early adopters of fashion and its trends were sporting their best looks, perfectly polished for the attendence of a runway show. I spoted metallic silver gleaming across the hub at Carriageworks. Shoes, skirts and jackets... Silver was one of the new hues of the season.

Loreal Fashion Festival has come to an end for this season. 

This past week Melbourne has been taken over by models, designers, buyers and fashions elite as attendees of Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival have come to town. The event held over the month of March has allowed the community to embrace fashion and support Australian designers. The brands have showcased their collections on the runway and below are some of my favourite looks.

To my excitement, milliner Stephen Jones was in Dunedin for the iD fashion awards. Being in the same city as this artist and visionary had me thinking about all the wonderful designers he has worked with for fashion shows and the iconic headwear he has created. From John Galliano and  Marc Jacobs to Dior, he has made an impact on the fashion world and brought to life the creative ideas for many big brands.

His ability to showcase an integral part of the styling oftens portrays the etheral nature of the show. And a theatre like experience for the audience, allowing an escape from reality into a world of fashion at its best. 

 

I have a great appreciation for handcrafted millinary and the workmanship that goes into each piece. The moulding of a felt hat on a wooden block is not a simple task. The steam and muscle power to create the perfect shape and correct size takes both knowledge and practice. So, in some instances you could say blood, sweat and tears.

Vintage shopping in Auckland

finding the best things...

The last week has been spent overlooking the picturesque landscape of New Zealand. And as much as the Hobbit showed this, the magnatude of its jaw dropping beauty was leaving me a little speechless. A short stroll through the Windy City of Wellington, which whilst there showed no wind and lots of sunshine I found myself at the flagship store of Zambesi. It's amazing how when you wander you just find the best things. Being in the store brought memories of seeing the Zambesi summer collection shown at Australian Fashion Week a few years ago.
